At the beginning of the year I worked out a self-help process that helped me work through my depression enough to get myself out of bed or off the couch and start doing things again. Overall it’s about a three step process, not including simple-ish mindset shifts, and I wrote it up as a book with plans to maybe someday publish it to help other people with depression.
Well, on Tuesday night I decided I’m going to publish it next month.
And last night I realized it isn’t for people with depression.
It’s for people who procrastinate.
In all those months that I was struggling and then figuring out this process, I never once thought of the issue as procrastination. I thought it was a lack of motivation, a symptom of depression. I didn’t care enough to get anything done. I didn’t see it as procrastination because I never reached a deadline that gave me the adrenaline to do it all in the last minute.
And yet, it was procrastination.
Looking at it this way makes it much easier to understand how so many not-depressed people have told me they think the concepts in this booklet will help them, too.
Now I have to rewrite this book.
I especially have to rewrite it because the title is, “Tomorrow I Will Make a List: How to Stop Procrastinating.”. Now it has to be funny. I was thinking it should probably be funny from the start, but I didn’t know how to do that when I was taking such a sincere approach to people suffering from depression.
I might rephrase the subtitle before I publish it. It sounds a little off to me.
Last night I commissioned the cover from the same designer who’s doing my Recovering Happily Ever After series. Hopefully I can get the draft completed before Halloween. I’ll have enough stuff to do on top of preparing it for publication once NaNoWriMo starts.
Oh, and the ebook will be free!
It probably won’t be available as a paperback. Maybe eventually. But not yet. I haven’t even made enough money off “That Prince Guy” yet to justify having it made into a paperback, although to be fair, it’s been out less than a week and the paperback version isn’t available for purchase yet.
Anyway, that’s about it for now. I’ll keep you guys updated!
