Hi guys! Last week I live streamed my second “How to Do Things When You’re Depressed” video on YouTube. You can watch it here. In the meantime, here’s a quick rundown complete with product links.

I am no watercolor expert. The last time I used watercolor before this was an art class in 11th grade, I think, and the last time before that was probably elementary school. I couldn’t even make it through a blog article on how to use watercolor pens, let alone a YouTube tutorial. I’ve been too anxious and depressed. I hate reading and watching things I don’t feel like I can connect to when I’m in a dark place like this.
So, I picked up a coloring book, watercolor pens, and a little cup of water and started drawing.
I don’t know much about any fancy techniques. All I know is that the colors are bold if you just start putting them on the page, and you can make them watery and pastel-y if you dip the brush in water first. Supposedly you can do some cool ombre effects by pressing two similar colors together at the tips for a moment and then putting the brush to the page. I tried and it didn’t work. But that’s okay. I enjoyed what I did.
Learning new things when you’re dealing with poor mental health can be completely overwhelming. I’ve been there. I’m there now. It’s okay to try new things without first making yourself an expert, or without doing it all ‘perfectly.’ Those are things I really struggle with myself.
Right now I have no idea what I’m doing with these watercolor pens, but I’m still enjoying it. I still think it’s fun. And to be honest, I haven’t picked them back up yet since filming the video, but I know I will. I’ll probably even learn more about how to use them in the future. But only once I’m ready.
If you’d like to watch any of the 45-minute long video, here’s that link again. In the meantime, here is the wonderful coloring book (my favorite ever!!!) and the watercolor pens I used.
Make sure to subscribe to my blog and/or YouTube channel to be updated when I do my next video/post!
