Big Changes

I genuinely thought I had updated this blog more recently. But no, it’s been 13 months. Whoops.

It’s been an insane year full of change and soul-searching. I’ve been making a lot of changes. In fact, I’ve been changing a lot about my life so that I can make more room for writing and focus more on my creative career. I think in part I’ve been putting off jumping onto social media anywhere just because I thought maybe I should wait until I was closer to being able to dive in headfirst.

I’m almost there!

In the next month or so, I am setting off on a cross-country road trip. I’ll most likely be doing a lot of sleeping in my car, showering at rec centers, eating peanut butter sandwiches, and doing DoorDash as necessary to pay my way as I go.

I am also about halfway done with my next self-help book, “How to Fall in Love Wrong: An Autobiographical Case Study.” I was planning on querying it soon, but at the moment I’m actually researching and trying to decide if it’d be a risk to self-publish instead. If I self-publish I can have it out in the next month or two, while I’m on the road trip, rather than wait months for it to come out with a traditional publisher.

I’m not sure what the right answer is here. More research!

I plan to blog about my journey here. I’m also going to keep you guys updated a bit on my current relationship that’s being written about in my new self-help book.

If you read my last article that mentioned being engaged to the man of my dreams, that relationship ended like a year ago. I’ve been with my current partner since December of last year. I thought it was going to end in the last week. It’s complicated. I love him so much, but I don’t know. You’ll have to read my book (or what to me will be future blog posts) to find out more.

I started writing this post before I did a podcast interview today and finished it after. It’s on Write 4 Joy with Ali Cross, and she’s recording interviews in advance and we don’t know when exactly it will be out, but I’ll link it when I have it! She hasn’t actually launched the podcast at the time that I’m posting this. I absolutely adore Ali and can’t wait to listen to the other interviews.

In the meantime, I’m working on setting up my Ko-Fi and also have a cashapp ($mariahkporter) if anyone wants to help financially support me on this new adventure. I’m not really starting out with a buffer, so I know I’m going to be struggling at times without help or another source of income. Huge thanks to anyone who contributes in any way.

I’ll be posting a lot more regularly soon. Stick around! This should be fun!
